Jack Grealish says Liverpool has 'incredible' playmaker who Arne Slot loves

Liverpool has scored at least eight more goals than any other Premier League team so far this season but come the summer, Arne Slot should be looking to improve his attack even further. A new number nine should be among his summer priorities.

Before that, though, there is another thing that simply has to be sorted out: tying Mohamed Salah down to a contract extension. The Egyptian has just a few months left on his existing deal but scored his 28th goal of the season so far over the weekend from the penalty spot.

Scoring is far from the only thing he brings to the table, however. As Jack Grealish has pointed out, Liverpool's top forward is also an elite playmaker, as shown by his tally of 19 assists so far this season.

"Salah’s playmaking over the last couple of years is incredible," Grealish told Bleacher Report. "I’m not saying he couldn’t do it before but before, he was more like so direct, scoring and stuff. But he gets so many assists now."

Alongside Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, there has been no update yet on whether Salah will be at Anfield beyond the summer. But the numbers he continues to post should point to only one outcome: it would be much costlier to try and replace him than simply to tie him down to an extension.

Will Mohamed Salah sign a contract extension?

Salah's representative, Ramy Abbas, will be central to any negotiations over the player's future and Liverpool fans could take some hope from his recent praise of Slot, as he wrote on X last week, "Excellent at his job," in response to a picture of Slot and the current Premier League standings.

Last month, Salah expressed his commitment to ending the season triumphantly with Liverpool, while also acknowledging that there had been "no progress" regarding his contract situation on Merseyside. Slot has made it clear several times that he wants to see his star man remain put on Merseyside with hopes that an agreement can be reached.

Liverpool.com says: Losing Salah is simply not an option. As Grealish says, he is offering much more than just goals. Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo as he got a bit older, Salah is still putting in a shift and is far from detrimental to the team's overall game even if he doesn't have the pace that he once did. The Egyptian's game has changed but he is no less effective. Indeed, his goals and assists are coming as thick and fast as they ever have before.
