Man United look set for major payday after Newcastle’s £45m bid for former player is rejected
Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Anthony Elanga’s summer situation as the forward’s value continues to rise.
It looks set to be a huge summer window for the Red Devils, with most of the attacking line available for transfer, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony.
Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are also linked with moves away, while Matheus Cunha has come in to freshen up the attack.
However, in order to make new signings, United are now looking to raise funds – and one former player could help boost finances, even after leaving the club two years ago.
Nottingham Forest want £60m for Anthony Elanga and Man United stand to profit from sell-on clause
United sold Elanga to Forest for £15m after he found it hard to come by first-team minutes at Old Trafford.
But the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength since making the move south.
He’s become a key figure under Nuno Espirito Santo, known for his pace and ability to stretch defences in a counterattacking setup.
Elanga contributed five goals and nine assists in his debut season, and improved that tally in the following campaign with six goals and 11 assists.
Now, teams are starting to take notice. According to The Athletic, Newcastle United have already had a significant offer turned down.
The Magpies reportedly bid £45m, but Nottingham Forest remained firm, outright rejecting the offer.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook claims the Midlands club are holding out for £60m – a figure four times what they originally paid Manchester United in 2023.
It is now down to Newcastle to decide whether they push ahead with another offer, especially knowing Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation.
Terms of Anthony Elanga’s sell-on clause remain undisclosed
Manchester United might be regretting parting with Elanga for just £15m, but there may still be some upside.
That’s because a well-placed sell-on clause from the original Forest deal means United are in line to receive a percentage of any future fee.
Exactly how much wasn’t disclosed, but a Newcastle deal could bring some money back to Old Trafford to help fund new signings.
And in a window where United are focusing on incomings, even a small boost in funds from a previous sale could be valuable.
